Sun shines on summer event

The sun was out for our summer event last Wednesday [18 June], at the BMA House [British Medical Association] in Tavistock Square, London.

In the magnificent Princes Room under the chandeliers, members gathered for a delicious afternoon tea, a chance to chat with their fellow writers and guests, plus a chance to win a book in the raffle.

Sandwiches, cakes and scones were the order of the day, complemented by tea and coffee with a buzz in the air as members caught up with each other and new acquaintances were made.

We also had as our guest speaker, Liz Mosely, the MD of Good Housekeeping and Good Housekeeping Institute.

Liz, is an award-winning marketer and writer, who has over 25 years’ experience with brands such as ELLE and Red magazines, plus The Times and The Telegraph.

As one of the longest established consumer magazines since its arrival in 1922, Good Housekeeping has certainly stood the test of time and moved with the times. It is currently Britain’s best-selling women’s magazine.

Liz spoke about her career and also about the journey of Good Housekeeping magazine over the decades. She showed the ever-changing front covers, which altered over time to show the different roles that women had, not just in the home but in the world.

Explaining that the print version of the magazine will remain at the forefront, Liz said that podcasts, promoting the magazine on social media channels, plus hosting the Good Housekeeping live events, meant that they could also keep evolving to reach readers of all ages.

We thanked Liz for her interesting and informative talk, before she took questions from members.

Also at the event, a presentation of a certificate was made to member Jenny Worstall, who was the winner of the Winner Takes All Spring 2025 “Trees” competition.

A wonderful afternoon was had by all and armed with a book won in the raffle, members went back out into the sunshine to head home.
